*Faculty Fellowship Program supports NCAR visits*
University faculty interested in visiting NCAR between 1 June 2005 and
31 May 2006 are invited to apply to the Faculty Fellowship Program.
Operated by the NCAR Advanced Study Program (ASP), this effort provides
opportunities to foster fruitful and lasting intellectual collaborations
and partnerships between university faculty and the NCAR staff. All
faculty employed full time at a college or university are eligible;
those from UCAR member institutions and academic affiliates are strongly
encouraged to apply. Durations of stay at NCAR range from three months
to one year.

Unidata Community Equipment Awards*
Under NSF sponsorship, UOP�s Unidata Program Center announces the 2005
Unidata Community Equipment Awards. A total of $100,000 is available for
awards this year. Proposals for amounts ranging from $5,000 to $25,000
will be considered. Notification of award status will be made by early

*NCAR Undergraduate Leadership Workshop*
Science department chairs are invited to nominate one student leader in
junior standing to represent their university at the fourth annual NCAR
Undergraduate Leadership Workshop, 20�24 June. Criteria for nomination
may include demonstrated interest in atmospheric and related sciences,
academic excellence, aptitude for research, and potential to gain from
the experience. NCAR will select up to 20 participants by 15 March.

Managed by UCAR, Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and
Science (SOARS) offers summer research internships to undergraduates
exploring a career in the atmospheric or related sciences. Applicants
should be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have completed the
equivalent of two years of college with a 3.0 cumulative GPA. SOARS
encourages applicants who
--are members of a group that is historically underrepresented in the
atmospheric and related sciences;
--have experienced, and worked to overcome, educational or economic
disadvantage;
--and/or have personal or family circumstances that may complicate their
continued progress in research careers.

*Postdoc openings in statistical science *
As part of an NSF project to develop collaboration among statistical,
atmospheric, and oceanographic scientists, the NCAR Geophysical
Statistics Project will be filling one or more visitor openings at the
postdoctoral level for statistical scientists. The visitors will work
as part of a group developing methods to analyze, compare, and interpret
large data sets. Appointments are for one year, with the strong
possibility of renewal for a second year. The appointment starting date
is flexible, with a target of 15 August.

*New associate director sought for NCAR/ESSL*
NCAR is currently accepting applications for a new associate director to
manage the Earth and Sun Systems Laboratory. The ESSL comprises four
NCAR divisions (ACD, CGD, HAO, MMM) and the new Institute for
