Dear Eva:

Best of luck with Muffin. If it's heart trouble, Lasix may help. This can
be ground up and put in food. It's a diuretic, and can help if there is
fluid accumulating in the lungs because of a heart problem, or infection.
Your vet would know. It helped our gerbil, who did have a heart problem.
Our vet gave it to us after he was X-rayed.

Subject: Update on Muffin

Hi,
So finally I can tell you more about Muffin. When I brought her to the
vet yesterday she was really very bad. She was breathing heavily and
this was the first thing to strike the vet, too.
There were actually several possibilities about what could be the matter
with her. Either pneumonia. Or a heart disease. Or a tumour. The vet
said there isn't much to do in case it's a heart problem but she gave me
some antibiotics to give her twice a day which should help in a case of
pneumonia. And she gave muffin a shot with some other antibiotic (I
think). When I mentioned that she had passed out twice the vet thought
it quite likely that there's something wrong with her heart.
I'm to keep her warm and make sure she'd drink, just like Julian
suggested (do I need a vet? ;-))
Well, I'm not too hopeful about her. This morning she was breathing even
heavier and her eyes were somewhat bulgy with a bit of mucus in the
corners. She hasn't got a furry friend to cheer her up and I'm afraid
she doesn't really think life's worth living any longer. :-(
Well, at least she didn't get worse over the day today so maybe there is
hope. Here eyes aren't quite so bulgy now. Also she ate some of the baby
mash I gave her. While I'm writing she's srcatching in a corner a bit.
That's a good sign, too, isn't it?
Let's wait and see.
Eva
