Jessi and All,

Tonight I removed my baby gerbils from their parents' cage because the mother
was chasing them and being rather vicious. One of the babies even had a
bloody nose from where the mother bit it. The babes were born on December
30, so they are barely four weeks old. Peekaboo (mom) is pregnant and due to
deliver imminently, so I'm assuming that's why she's been acting this way.
She acted the same way towards her first litter when expecting her second.

Has anyone got any advice? Should I have removed the babies from the
parents' cage? Have any of you had females act this way toward the end of
their pregnancies?

I'm relatively new to breeding gerbils -- this is my second litter, goin on
third -- so I'd appreciate any insights you might have. :-)

Thanks!
Vicki

<< I noticed that my "four week" old babies have been eating and drinking VERY
well.. they have been eating on there own for about a week and a half now..
Do you think it would be ok to sell them at this young, or should I wait
untill they are six weeks of age? I have always waited untill they were six
weeks old.. But I was wondering since they are eating so well, if it would
hurt, has anyone ever seprated theres at this age? Please let me know, I was
planning on giving them away this Monday.. They would be 5 weeks by Monday..
