One can also block messages on AOL.

On version 4.0, go to Mail Center in the menu bar and select Mail Controls.
Choose Set Up Mail Controls and select the user name to edit (if you have
more than one user on an account). Click on the Edit button.

In the next window, select the choice at the bottom of the list to "Block
e-mail from the listed AOL members, Internet domains and addresses". Then,
simply type in the address to block and "Add" to the list.

Just remember to edit the list if someone changes addresses.

work with all 4.x versions, and maybe earlier ones too):

Choose Communicator from the menu bar, then Messenger.
This will change the menus in the menu bar.

Choose the Edit menu from the menu bar, then Message Filters.

Click the "New" button.

Enter an appropriate title for the filter.

Select the control "Match All of the Following".

Just below that, there should be a pull-down menu (white box with a down
arrow button to its right) -- left-click the box and select "Sender".

To the right of that, another pull-down menu says "contains"... leave
that as-is.

To the right of that box, an empty white box appears. Type the name of
the sender you wish to block (exactly as it appears in messages!
Capitalization counts.).

Two rows below, there is a white pull-down menu preceded by the word
"Then". Left-click the white box and choose "Delete".

Then click "OK", click "OK" again, and presto, no more messages from
that sender.
