I have currently 11 gerbils (plus 5 pups).
Jiffy - agouti female, she is my old lady (3 1/2 years)
Girlie - black female (Jiffys daughter)
Plato - pied agouti male (Girlies mate)
Cesar - pied agouti male (brother of Plato)
Luna - black female (Cesars mate)
Angel - DTW female (Girlies daughter and Jiffys granddaughter)
Hermes - ivory cream male (Angels mate - came from Kitt)
Lucky - DTW male (Angels brother, Girlies son ....)
Skittels - siamese female (Luckys mate - came from Kitt)

As you can see, they are one big family :)

It started with one Gerbil in Jan '97 (Jiffy). She was alone in a small
plastic cube in pet store and sat on shredded paper. I felt sorry and took
her home. The next day my husband came home with another male gerbil, for
company. Not knowing better, we just placed him in her tank and wondered
why the small guy was chasing the big "guy". Never having rodents before,
we just placed a cardboard divider in the tank for the night. The next
morning I found them on the opposite sides of the tank from where we had
left them. 4 weeks later we were the proud parents of 4 pups and Herby
became her/his final name Jiffy :) They lived happy together till Dante
passed away last october, we miss him very much :(

Now Lucky has to prepare to get under the knife. He also has developed a
scent gland tumor. Can this tendency be inherited?
Just asking because his dad had one just 2 month ago.

Esther
