Well, it's happened, just like I feared. The 4 boys that I gave a pair of gerbils to (remember?) have killed Pancake :,'0-C My brother told me not too long ago that one of them told him about it yesterday (and his little brother was trying to get him to stop--"No! No, don't tell him!" Gee, I wonder why.). He says he can't remember why, so I guess I'll go over tomorrow and see what I canfind out about the cause, although I get a feeling it could have been prevented if, like I believe I mentioned concerns about before, they were more of the responsible sort. Since they obviously didn't see fit to tell me, I guess I'll take the remaining gerbil, Gibby, away, Though I don't know what I'll do with her--maybe buy another cage and put her in with Milly, her younger sister. I'm considering giving them one more chance, after accidents can happen... but on the other hand, I don't want another gerbil death on my hands that I feel I could have prevented, easily. (Pancake was one of my favorites of the first, too, along with Titanic. I had a hard time choosing between them as to which would stay... and now I feel so guilty that she's gone! Poor girl.)
