I think what happened was a communication problem. If I recall correctly,
Steven had talked about a Canadian society several weeks ago. AGS officers
pointed out that "American" refers to North America and, rather than
splinter AGS and Canadian resources, Canadians could consider joining AGS.
The whole matter was dropped.
Then Nicholas brought it up again, I imagine not even knowing that Steven
had considered it previously. Steven naturally thought it was being brought
up again in the context of HIS plans, so responded. Nicholas seems to have
thought Steven was "taking over" and responded accordingly. Steven was left
wondering, "What the heck?!?"
Does this sound plausible? "And so turn in tomorrow for another edition
of...As the Gerbil Turns....."
