I've never had to treat this myself, but I remember several list members at various times talking about using treatments bought in a pet store (a powder if I remember correctly) that works. I would be careful giving the gerbils shots as it is an extreme stress to their bodies (I had one die in the vet's waiting room after just having had a shot).
