I t would almost certainly be disastrous to leave her/him in there. If
Horsefeathers is eating and drinking I would place her/him with any
other young gerbils you have. Help her/him along with a dropper with
some milk for a few days.

Yes.

The distance between urinary opening and anus is very different between
males and females. Males it is much further apart.

It is a good sign that the pup was OK for a day on their own. With a
little help fro you, and some company, all should turn out OK.
