Subject: Help!
My new litter had three gerbils in it and now there are only two. It seems
that it died of natural causes because there werent any bite marks or
scratches. At least i hope that is the case/
**Look at the stomachs of the other two pups. Can you see their stomachs
full of milk? You should be able to see a white color inside there bellies.
This will indicate that they are nursing and getting milk.
I have a question, is it natural for the males to chase around the female
after the litter was born because i had to take out the males because they
kept on bothering her. And is it allroght to pick up the mother after the
babies are born or skould i let her be for a while? thanks for the help!
Yes, it is normal for the males to chase the female shortly after giving
birth. This is a part of the mating cycle.
You should leave a male with her so she has help in taking care of the pups.
Making her raise the pups by herself is very stressful for a gerbil.
As for touching her after having the babies. It should be ok as long as you
and the gerbils are comfortable with each other.
best of luck,
