When you gotta do soemthing- do it however you gotta do it.  If it means
puttign the meds on your pets paws or belly to lick off- then its better
than nothing (though you cant be sure of what dose they are geting).

If I have a "squirmy" animal, we "coocoon" it first (a "gerbil burrito") ina
  towel with jus the head exposed, then get the meds in there.

if all else fails, the belly is better than nothing at least.  focus on
getting more liquids in the gerbil too.  shes loosing lots of water and
needs it replenished.
