As of January, 1997, Agri-Food Canada and Customs Canada removed federal import 
restrictions for ALL rodents. I have a letter from the Chief Veterinarian of Agri-Food 
Canada [which is the Canadian equivalent to the US Dept of Agriculture] attesting to 
this fact.

However, it wouldn't hurt to have a vet certification of health to facilitate their 
journey.

Ontario has no provincial restrictions on Gerbil ownership although there may be the 
oddball municipality that has restrictive by-laws. Of all the provinces, Alberta has 
some draconian ownership laws for specific rodents such as rats. For more information,
