Just giving an update on my gerbils. I do not have a family name but I guess you could call our place Hobbiton. We have three males that will be 11 months old on the 4th of March. Bilbo is black with a little white bib. He is the most industrious of the boys. He is the first to start chewing on a cardboard tube or toilet paper. Frodo is also black but his bib is larger and he has white across his front paws. Frodo is our jumper. He tries to jump out of everything. Sam is a dove. He is the dominate one of the group from what we can tell. Sam is also our chow hound. He is usually first in line for treats. 8-) They are littermates that we got from Tana. The boys enjoy climbing on our shoulders, getting treats 8-), and running around in their exercise pool, which is a child's wading pool that we lined with opened up boxes so the walls would be too high for a gerbil (read Frodo) to jump over. We try to be very careful to keep them contained as we do not have a very gerbil friendly house. Or maybe I should say it is too gerbil friendly. We have too much furniture up against walls that would give them excellent places to hide where we couldn't reach them. Sam got loose one time and hid behind the entertainment center.
