Hi all,

I recently found this email list and was quite
pleased. I sent a subscription message a little bit
ago and hope to be subscribed soon if not already.

My name is Jean and have had gerbils off and on for
many years. About a year ago, I lost all of my
gerbils, about 50 at that time, in a suspected
Tyzzer's outbreak, despite under vet care as well as
my care.

About 4 months ago, I came across some gerbils in a
local pet store of colors I had never seen before. I
basically bought all they had ... and haven't seen
anything unusual since. The store clerk said he had
never seen any of these colors before either, and he
had been there for about 5 years. At any rate, after
looking at many pictures, I think I've identified most
of them, but I'm hoping some of you out there can help
me really identify or confirm the colors of my
gerbils.

The basics of the gerbils are that they all are around
6 to 7 months old. The colors are guesses at this
time.

Snowgirl & Creamy - Snowgirl is a female light
colorpoint grey agouti or light colorpoint agouti.
Creamy is a female ivory cream, possibly spotted.

Ruby & Pepper - Ruby is a yellow fox female, and
Pepper is a silver nutmeg spot male, I think. Pepper
was a cream color when I got him, and now he has black
ticking all over. They are one of my two breeding
pairs. I'm hoping Ruby is pregnant with her first
litter ... she is due around March 20th.

Robin & Sneaks - Robin is a schimmel female. Sneaks
is a spotted light colorpoint slate, burmese, or
colorpoint slate male. I don't know how to tell the
difference between those colors as they look so
similar. He is a medium greyish-brown color, more
grey in some lights and more brown in others. They
are my other breeding pair.

Freckles, Sparkle, and Star - A male trio. Freckles
is a mottled black male, Sparkle is a grey agouti
male, and Star is a siamese pied male.

And another question ... Snowgirl, Star, Sneaks, and
Sparkle were together in one cage at the store, along
with a golden agouti and an argente golden. Creamy,
Ruby, Pepper, Robin, and Freckles were in the other
cage at the store. Can anyone tell me what I can
possibly expect from my breeding pairs?

I also have two dogs, Abby, a cream Spitz/Pomeranian
mix female who is 3 years old, and Taylor, a white
Papillon/Spitz mix male who is 1 year old. I also
have Tips, an orange and white domestic short hair
male cat, who is 7 years old.

Sorry for the huge email -- I'll try to do better next
time. All input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jean
