A week of highs and lows.
That introduction that I mentioned seems to have been a success...fingers
crossed. Read your replies then attempted the sustained 'wire-out' a few
days back. I'm pleased to report that Molly and Genista have been in together
without incident since Tuesday, 6pm GMT. Lots of grooming, lots of sleeping
in a pile. Very sweet...except that Nista appears to have had an
accident/minor stroke. This happened Sunday night, when she suddenly lost her
balance and fell off the roof of her house. Strange, we thought, since Nista
is normally very agile. (She climbs the stairs) On Tuesday, she was in with
Molly, playing and digging...and she lost her balance again, and tumbled down
a slope in the tank. Very odd. Then, when the girls were out exercising on
Wednesday it was obvious that Nista has trouble with her right hip, or should
that be right rear leg? She can stand, run, though she wobbles a bit, and
climb. But when she jumps, she tends to tumble on landing. She can stand up
straight on her hind legs, but sways if she tries to swivel. A sprain? (We
can't imagine how she might have broken or dislocated anything in her tank -
the girls weren't fighting, they weren't even in together that day. She has
remained very active since, both in the tank, and when out. She's also eating
and drinking as normal. Any ideas? I've read the relevant NGS pages and
decided a trek to the vet was probably useless. Nor does she appear to be in
pain, just trying to compensate for this irritating (for her) minor
disability. On the positive side, she and Molly can't get enough of each
other's company. Again, thanks for all the advice - patience appears to have
paid off.
Mr Reardon aka Honeymouse has a second scent gland tumour, which the
little ***** has gnawed at while I was out: he was due to have it burned off,
but he's beaten us to it...now he's got another wound and a course of
Baytril. I hope it works as well as last time, and that he won't get another
abcess. Soon as he's perked up again, its off to the vet for a check up.
Pest! I don't mind the worry, it's the twice daily ritual of struggling and
biting we have to endure as he and I do the brine bath treatment...:)) You
could hear him muttering across the room. Not a happy camper.
Molly, Ritzy, Bonnie and Grace (formerly Sinthu) are all doing well.
Adopted girls have settled in well. Mr Recznik is still large, famously
temperamental and in fine health...fingers crossed.
Cal and her gerbils.
