I'd have to agree with this..I made the mistake of leaving a wheel in with my
very first litter of gerbils born. Rizzo (the mother) had taken Nezzie (her
2 week old baby) on the wheel with her and dropped her and Nezzie ended up
being killed (I'm assuming she broke a rib and it punchered her lung because
when I foudn her she was lying lifelessly in the wheel and heaving heavily).
As a rule now I never put a wheel in the cage with a nursing mother.

anyway. Wheels can be very dangerous for pups, even if the mother is
sensible. >>
