There are a lot of dangers with using fresh vegetables. I have known of
cases of diarrhoea and even serious illness from feeding these
regularly. They do not form part of the gerbils natural diet which is
mainly dry grasses, seeds, roots and insects.
Almost anything can be given to gerbils as treat but it is important
that it has been washed, it is clean and fresh and that any remains are
removed immediately after the gerbil loses interest in it.
