Dear list,
I've kept gerbils for almost a year now and this will be my first diarrhea
experience. Two days ago I fed my gerbils a bit of apple and noticed that my
male ate almost the whole piece. It didn't alarm me until this morning when
I noticed that he has a dirty/wet tail type butt.
I removed him and held him until he pooped a bit. His poops are slightly
runnier than usual but not serious. He is active and eating well otherwise.
My question is: am I correct in assuming he has a bit of the "runs" and
it will clear itself up in a day or two (he is on dry food only now) and if
anyone would recommend antibiotics as precautionary. However I don't want to
give antibiotics needlessly either.
