I've noticed the same as Emily with relation to the DPP and c(h) connection
possibility. I am breeding with a female that originates with her stock. I
currently have a nutmeg pied (possibly schimmel spot) male pup, born March
11, who seems to have the trait. (He is unrelated to Emily's possible DPP
DEH.) His parents are aaCc(h)e(f)e(f)GGppSp (mother) and aaC*ee(f)ggPPSp
(father). Overall, he is very, very light for a nutmeg, but he has two
asymmetrical dark orange spots that were visible very early on. One spot
actually covers part of his white collar pattern, the other, on the side of
his rump, looks as if it lays atop his lighter orange fur. Both spots are
very well-defined. This pup's mother has had fifteen other babies by this
pup's uncle, and has produced none that look like this one until now.

My question is, could this description fit a DPP, or could it be related to
the interaction of e(f) and Sp? Further, is there any speculation on
epistasis between the fading gene and DPP traits? If a pup is e(f)e(f) and
DPP, will his darker spots fade at the same rate and with the same degree as
his non-dark areas?
