I wouldn't overestimate this. As like as many fruit seeds (but much more in
the seeds of Prunus species - and there especially in almonds - ), apple
seed may also contain a very little of such cyanogene glycosides (Amygdalin)
which builds prussic acid but I don't think, apple seeds accidentially eaten
will kill a gerbil. No, I think, apples should be save.
