Spring fever

I was just noticing that my two female gerbils seem to be "mounting" each
other occasionally....
I know that dogs and cats do this sort of thing.  Do all same-sex gerbil
pairs do this at some time or other, or is it just a random behaviour?
Maybe it's spring and they're feeling the spring urges everyone else is. :)
