Hi list-
I haven't posted in a while- there hasn't been much good news after the
deaths of Sappho and Athena.

But today- I have been in the process of trying to introduce Calantha (a
Dani gerbil and Sappho's cagemate) to Blake, a little black female I
rescued from a shelter. They were in a split cage for over a month! The
first time they were put together after 2 weeks, they fought almost
immediately. I think that may have been my fault because I overlapped 2
pieces of hardware cloth to make the divider to make the holes smaller to
no teeth would get stuck. As a result, I think they really couldn't get to
each other and sniff or lick or whatever they do to identify the other.

So, I re-made the divider with one piece of hardware cloth only, and went
back for another 2 weeks of switching sides. After about 1 1/2 weeks, I
allowed them some play time in the tub on neutral ground and they got along
pretty well.

The divider came out last night, and there was some marking and chasing
(Calantha is dominant), and then they went and made separate nests. When I
woke up this a.m., they were snuggled together in the same nest! YAY! I'm
so happy because I think they were both very lonely. This is my 3rd
successful adult female intro. I just had to share- thanks for reading!
