Whilst gerbils can be separated from their parents as young as 30 days,
there is a lot of evidence that they thrive better if left with their
parents until at least five, and preferably six weeks of age, This is
not just weaning, it is also an important time for gerbils to learn
behaviours that are important when they are adult.
