I have seen this before too.  For example, Pookie's sore paw (which turned out to be an
infection).  I have seen his cagemate Rascal very carefully washing it!  It is getting 
better
BTW, the vet drained it *shudder* and told me to put him on antibiotics.  He also gets 
it
bathed in warm salt water every day, and boy he really HATES that ...
