Yes!! They will mate. The only time you would not expect this to happen is if the female has reached menopause(her eggs are all used up). I'v read that this usually happens somewhere around three years? Check the NGS web site at www.rodent.demon.co.ud/index. Their site is filled to the gills with information!   On the second question, it does seem normal to see gerbils eating the dust bath. Mine do it too (eat chinchilla dust that is).
