Sounds like an ear infection, possibly. It's my understanding that the
gerbil will simply adapt to the head-tilt, but it sounds like a course of
gerbil-safe antibiotics is definitely in order.
         I completely disagree with the statement that not much can be done for
gerbils. As a watchful owner with an experienced exotics vet my gerbils,
some of whom are well past 2 years now, have come through injuries and
illnesses like new with proper medication, surgical procedures and
treatment. When I hear vets make statement like that I really feel that it
reflects their own lack of confidence in treating the particular species.
Find an experienced exotics vet and see what she/he has to say. Good luck!
