I have a couple suggestions, but they are just that: suggestions....
Make sure the cage is away from drafts, but in the coolest place
possible...i.e. the floor ('cause hot air rises :o) and out of direct
sunlight...obviously....
When my room got way too hot, I kept a closed container of ice in the cage
-in a yogurt container- (but a can might work better and can't be chewed
upon)....that way they could brush by it or sleep next to it if they
wanted....although my gerbil never touched it, it was there for her if she
really wanted it....she preferred to dig down to the bottom of the cage and
lie on the cold glass of the tank....

That is a good question, because I live in an old home and the air (when I
turn it on) really does not do good up there at cooling it down, so my son
comes down stairs and sleeps when it's really hot. I did not have gerbils
last year, so what is the thought on this subject?
