Here's my addition to the gerbil dream thread...
That is funny. I've had a reoccurring dream just about my whole life that I had hamsters in the closet that were completely forgotten about -- neglected, multiplying away. And I found them all dirty and starving just in time to save most, if not all. It usually had nothing to do with hamsters (actually I've never owned a hamster in my life!) -- my interpretation is that I have that dream when I'm taking too much on and important tasks in my life are neglected/forgotten. I agree that it has to do with worries that need care taking. (Funny thing is now that I'm actually breeding little rodents (gerbils), I haven't had that dream!)
