Re gerbil neutering: we just had our male Wolfie done.  Our vet, who is
great with "exotics," examined him and then took x-rays to be sure his
health was good enough to sustain the surgery.  It was not cheap, but for us
it was worth it.  We did not want to separate him from his mate, Pinky,
especially because they have pups now who are only two to three weeks old.
Further, we did not want more pups, given the challenge in finding good
homes for all of them.

Yes. But you need to find a vet who is prepared to do it and there may
be complications.
