Hi folks... I have been away for some time now from the list serve, but I
feel the need to check back in for a while.

My girlfriend and I have been raising three sister gerbils for about two
years now. Tonight, with very little warning, one of them died. We have
deduced it to having been a respiratory infection, but it happenned so
quickly I thought I would get your opinions.

Last night, Razor was acting very normal (well normal for HER anyway),
digging like mad in the corner. This afternoon, when Alyssa got home
from work, she asked me what razor was doing, as she apperaed to be
lunging somewhat spasticaly with each breath. When I picked her up, she
was cold, and very lethargic. We read through some papers we had, and
guessed Resp Inf., so we listenned to her breathing, and sure enough, she
was clicking. We ran to the pet store, to get the ornacycline, and
hurriedly dissolved one tablet in 8 oz of water. Unfortunately, before
the tablet dissolved, Razor when into seizres, and died within just a few
seconds. The whole event, from when we noticed, till she died was less
than one hour.

Is this typical for a Resp. inf.? I seemed to think that there was more
warning than that. Is it likely that she had been struggling with the
infection for some time before we noticed? What do you all think? This
is our first experience with this sort of thing.

James!

PS: Her sisters seemed to know what had happenned and they are dealing
with it quite well. I suspect they knew about their sisters fate well
before any of the stupid humans in the house did...
