Hi Lisa,

I don't consider nibbling a problem, and in my (admittedly limited) gerbil
experience have found it to be separate completely from biting. That is,
nibbling doesn't lead to biting. The gerbil seems to be checking for food or
experiencing you through taste (especially the pups and youngsters).

Don't know if one teaches another about nibbling; maybe they both think you smell
salty or something. They do seem to teach the pups about crawling through tubes
and gnawing them up.
