I have to say that I don't think kinks in the tail are normal. A gerbils tail is made of bone therefore if it is kinked, it is a broken bone or defect. I wouldn't say that is the *norm* for gerbils. I think I even read somewhere that a kink in the tail could be a result of inbreeding too much.
