Hi Jennifer,
Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what to talk about. In the past I
have taken my critters to the library to put on a little program for kids. I
mainly gave a brief history of gerbils like where they came from, the
climate that they live in, I mentioned that they burrow underground as so
on. I usually do my critter presentations in about 30 minutes when talking
to kids. Their attention spans don't last quite an hour. The kids ask many
questions and even like to tell their own little stories.
I suggest not trying to overload them with a lot of info. It may make gerbil
care sound like a lot of work to someone who has never cared for a small
critter. I do try to clairify the myth that gerbils are mean and stink. It
seems that a lot of people that don't know anything about them assume they
are mean and stink and look like rats. I always tell people that gerbils
only bite when provoked, hurt, or scared. I also tell people that they only
need their cages cleaned once every two to three weeks. Hopefully this info
will convince people that they are not mean and they don't bite.
I do have a basic care page that is good for a newbie owner. The is also a
link on the care page that shows you closs-up pictures of different kinds of
gerbil food. You can find the address to my site in my signature.
I was just curious as to why you want all the color pictures and pup
pictures? Maybe instead of printing them all out (ink is wxpensive), maybe
you could put together a PowerPoint presentation that includes all the
pictures. I would assume the library has a computer that you can display
your presentation on. I have a powerpoint presentation put together for my
gerbils. It is quite easy to do.
Good luck and I hope all this info helps, please feel free to ask whatever
questions you like,
