Hi Steven,

I think starting out with father and sons is the ideal way to start up your
boy tank. I wanted a variety of colors and have gotten in my three litters:
dove, argente cream, argente cream spot, and dark eyed white -- all girls!! All
of my males have been agouti. I decided to stop breeding (at least for now) and
had the pups of colors I wanted shipped in to me.

I do think a 10 gallon is too small to house 5 gerbils, I have a 20 gallon
tank waiting for them. I'm only using this small size until they are all
nesting together; which btw they are one step closer to. Now I see the three
older pups piled in one corner, the grown up smushed next to them and then the
youngest pup curled right up next to the big guy. Not quite one big gerbil
pile, but getting close.

Gary has a couple years experience with keeping a boy tank and recommends
that it be very simple -- compartments, tubes, and rooms, he's found cause
territorial disputes. So the more complex tubes and stories setup might be
better for a pair.

Good luck to you, let me know how it goes -- Donna
