Hi Janet,

My experience is YES. Jasmine had a litter of nine pups last month and they are all wonderfully healthy healthy week olds.

I provide my nursing mothers all the meal worms they want. It is a fabulous source of protein and extra moisture. I also allow the pups to have meal worms too.

I have read on the list that some folks don't think it's such a good idea. But I have not experienced any problems with cannibalism as a result. Just don't feed the gerbils any animal protein, lunch meat etc.., as it will induce cannibalism.

BTW: Gerbils regularly eat insects as a part of their wild diet, so it is a perfectly natural diet supplement.

Subject: Pups!!! Advice needed!

Shushan has had her pups this morning.  I am worried about them though.  There are 9, but they are very tiny.  Maybe only two thirds the size of Hanna's pups.  (She had a litter of four, on was a still born.)  At this time the pup all seem alive and moving, but can a litter this big of tiny, tiny pups survive?

I have given the mom an extra serving of sunflower seeds, and spinage.  Is there any thing else that I can do to help the mom?  I do not want to touch the pups, so supplemental feedings is out until the pups are older.  Unless something goes wrong... Pray that it doesn't!

Thank you,
Janet and Liz
