Hi all,
The four little pups are doing very well. I have just checked them
before going to bed, and they are there and active. Two of them have
darker gray skin. One has lighter skin, but it is not pink. The
fourth I was not able to see very well, it was lying on it's back. I
believe that it too has lighter skin, but not pink.
I have one other question about my other pair, Hanna and Jo-Jo. I am
debating is I should take Jo-Jo out and put into a tank of his own tonight or
tomorrow. Hanna is getting close to delivering her second litter, this is
day 27. (She is getting rather large, Jo-Jo is also madly building a
nest.) Several breeders have said that after two litters they should be
given a break. Of course the only way to do this is to remove the
male.
There are several problems in this.
1. I have no male or male pup to put Jo-Jo in with. (Their
three pups are all females.) I am concerned that it would be very
stressful to remove him and leave him alone.
2. I am concerned about reintroducing them in the future.
3. Jo-Jo is an excellent father and extremely helpful in giving Hanna
breaks.
I am curious to hear what the experts of our group recommend. Is it
best to leave breeding pairs together, even though they will continue to have
more pups? At this time this is not an issue for us. We have a
market that can handle the litters for the time being.
My only concern if Hanna and Jo-Jo's health and well being. If it is
more stressful to remove the father just before a new litter arrives I, of
course will not do it. If on the other hand it is more stressful for her
to have one litter after the other, then I should remove him.
Thank you,
Janet
