IMHO these questions would be answered easily at two websites used by many

Those two sites certainly reduced my ignorance, both before and after pups
were born.
Personal experience about two pregnant females. Mine got along fine but
both were young and with first litters. After they each had 6 healthy
pups they commingled them in a nest, and were even nursing pups with out
regard for whose pup it was. So I wondered about leaving that happy
community rather than separating females with their litters. GML
discussed it, pro and con. Elizabeth Heckert clinched it for me: "Why
take the chance?" (Yes -- that's exactly the quote I mentioned in the
Great Shipping Debate.)
