Hi Trevan:

Most rodents do, including Gerbils, Degus, Chipmunks, and of course, Chinchillas!

Get some Chinchilla Dust Bath sand/powder at the pet store. Place a layer about 1 cm
deep in a small dish [ie., about 10 cm in length] and place it in the cage. Your
Gerbil will most likely ignore it at first [maybe for few days even] but he will
eventually use it. You can help him get the feel of the sand/powder by sprinkling some
on his back and rubbing it very lightly in. It is probably best to leave the dish in
the cage for only 15-minute periods once or twice a day, otherwise it may be used as
an urinal.
