Hi. :) I just joined this list and would be grateful for any and all
advice. I got two gerbil brothers (perhaps 10 weeks old?) about a week
ago (semi-long story and not all that interesting, but I'll bore you
with it if you want.<g> To sum up, I didn't exactly go out looking for
gerbils.....)

My only experience with other wee ones has been a rescue chinchilla that
I had for several months before finding her a much better home, and
several ratties a few years ago. (And boy do I miss them......)

Got a *very* basic book on gerbil care, and am now looking for gerbil
lists, links, *anything*! I've found the gerbil housing site, and have
great plans..... I figure that, since Chompa and Tenzin chose Tibetan
names (yes, I ran quite a few names past them, and these were the ones
they liked), they might like something along the lines of a miniature
version of the Potala Palace at Lhasa.... someday..... Right now,
they're in a cage that I think is way too small, though it has three
levels, and I took myself and my paycheck to the pet store today to get
them a little wooden "timber hideaway" (boxlike, with one top hole and
two on the sides), and a "coconut cabana" (hollowed out coconut shell
with a hole in it), a better water bottle than the one that came with
the cage, and some treats. They're eating a mix made by KayTee. I
plan to buy or have made (I'd do it myself, but I'm a total klutz) a
*much* bigger cage for them (yee ha! Planning that will be something to
do at the office when I'm *supposed* to be working.....), and will
eventually get them onto a homemade diet, as I did with my rats. In my
searching tonight, I discovered that I was right in thinking they might
like some sand or chinchilla dust..... so they'll be getting that as
well. Again, any and all suggestions welcome!

Thanks, from me and my gerbil boys.

Tam
Chompa (I scared that big doggie who was lookin' at us!)
Tenzin (Sure you did, Chompa.... Come back in the the hideaway and tell
me about it....)
