I`m very sad to report the sick gerb I posted about died a little while ago.
I`m usually not the overly-dramatic type, but I feel somewhat like I
contributed to her death. I was holding her and trying to get a drop of the
meds in her mouth and she bit at the dropper. Then she started twitching and
gasping for breath. She didn`t even get a drop to speak of in her. I
immediately placed her back into her cage and she rolled over on her side
and died in a few seconds. I feel SO bad. Maybe I should have just left her
alone, who knows..... I also called my vet on his emergency number and he
basically said the same thing that all of you told me so I guess I did have
to try. What do you think happened while I was holding her? Did I scare her
or something or was it just her time? I was very gentle but I`m not
experienced. Anyway, thanks to Deb, Jill ,Gary and Doug for your advice.
I`ve had several pets and it ALWAYS rips my heart out when one of them dies.
Now I have a lone gerbil, soon to be lonely I`m sure. Maybe I`ll try an
intro w/ split cage at some point..... Gotta go.... time to cry. ~Deb
