Paper wrapped around the wheel can be held tightly with Elmers glue or
tape. Use several layers of paper like paper mache if using glue, and
attach the wheel to the lid so its upside down. This will make it harder
to rip the paper off and this will create more floor space underneath.
My longest lasting paper on the wheel, is "sandpaper" held in place with
packing tape. Its been on for over four months and is still clean. The
gerbils have not urinated on it.
