I'm sorry but, I have to disagree. It has been my experience that gerbils
who are strange to one another will attempt to fight, even through a
divider. When this occurs, I do not swap sides with the animals until they
settle down. This usually takes a day or two.

I currently have two males who have been successfully paired for two and a
half weeks now. These two were tricky. They fooled me into thinking they
were ok with each other. No sooner than I turned my back and they were at
each others throat :( I promptly separated them again and waited another
week and a half with MUCH better results!!

You have to be VERY patient. Take all the time THEY want. It will work. Just
go slow ;)
