>I hope this doesn't sound dumb but does everyone bury their gerbils when

Strangely enough, that isn't a dumb question at all. Since I used to live
in Fairbanks, Alaska, this was a very important issue. It's kind of hard to
bury a gerbil when you've got several feet of snow on top of several feet of
frozen soil and 6 months until things thaw out.

What do you do? Throw the gerbil in the trash? Freeze the gerbil and wait
until spring? Drive out into the woods and toss the gerbil away? Or, bury
the gerbil under the snow and hope the local scavengers remove the body
before spring thaws the gerbil out?

The last suggestion is what we did. Since our house was surrounded by
woods, we would bury the gerbil in the snow a ways from the house and hope
the ravens or some other scavenger would remove the carcass. Not very
romantic, but what other choice did I have?

I suppose you could hire a taxidermist to freeze-dry and stuff your gerbil
or get the gerbil cremated.
