I think this depends on the person. There are people I would say of whom
one pet is too much!

If you start to feel burdened by it, loose interest, find its not "fun"
anymore- then yes, you have to many. But what is too many, the actual
number- that depends on the person.

I have ten 10 gallon tanks a 15 gloon and a 20 gollon with gerbils (numbers
flucutae). I also have a varyign number of rats (50 to 75 usually), about
30-40 mice, a small colony of spiny mice, a small colony of dormice, 4
chinchillas, 4 guinea pigs, 2 cats, 2 hedgehogs, a snake, a rankins dragon,
a frog, fish, 5 syrian hamsters, a small colony of dwarf hamsters (...and a
partridge in a pear tree....). I clean cages 5 out of 7 days a week. I
consider my pets my "full time business" (though its not a business, just a
hobby. I have a pet related business though that I do run). I enjoy all
the animals, caring for them, and want to move to a good sized farm soemtime
soon =) I want an african grey parrot and capybaras and a horse.... By that
time I will no doubt by hiring someone to help with "basics" so that I can
still have time to play with all the critters everyday.
