I have found that gerbils will not just breed endlessly, when they feel that
their environment is getting too crowded they will cease to breed. I`ve also
found that two females that both have litters will put all babies in one
nest and suckle each others young. The pups seem to have a better chance of
surviving (in my experience)and grow very quickly. A few of my colonies
consist of such a line up. The male is kept with a son from the first litter
if I decide to stop the colony breeding and the other sons usually go to the
local pet shop.
Regards,
Joanne Eliz.
