Gentle little noises are comfort or curiousity. I have some
vocal ones, and others never make noise when I pick them
up. Loud noises are fear and or pain. Templeton could just
be insecure and unused to being handled, a little more
nervous and high strung than your other gerbil. Patience
and handling will probably make him quiet down.

It varies, but shipping via the US Postal Service is illegal. As
in major fines and worse. Some do it anyway, but. Some air
freight.
