Hi;

First off, I have been reading this list for around a week now, I
hope I don't get to long winded. First about me I am a 44 year old
male, and I have always had hamster, growing up and in adulthood.
Gerbils always seemed a little fast to me.

Well around the month of May, my son (10 years old) comes home from
school telling me they have gerbils in his class room and the teacher
said the students can have some if they bring in a note from their
parents and a cage. Well being the dad I am and being a rodent fan,
I told him sure. We were suppose to get two females, but the teacher
told us all the females were gone, and we would get two males (fine
with me I was not really into breeding). Well we got the two gerbils,
I believe the color of the two would be agouti. My son named the two,
Gibil, and Fievel.

Well the smaller of the two was sort of a squeaky one. We will move
forward in time now, to about the first week of
August (And yes, by the by, I am a gerbil fan now) fievel was
squeaking a lot and for a day or two, I am thinking oh boy, a sick
Gerbil, that will break my boys heart, so I pick up Fiev, and Gibil
is in the corner drinking water. Well I am holding Fiev, thinking
hum he seems ok, and just then the nest starting squeaking, well I
am holding one, and the other is drinking water. Well did you think
that I would think to sex the things, well of course Fiev is a girl,
and we have 4 new pups. One of the poor things was born, (or was
chewed off) with only three legs, messing a back one, but it (6
weeks old now) is happy as a clam and moves around great. Tripod is
its name, and is light brown with pinkish eyes, the other three look
just like the parents. Well two days ago the next litter is here, and
6 more pups. I have dad in his own cage with one of his sons (I
hope) and all seem happy. I would of liked to keep them together but
I don't want anymore pups, and me being the sap that I am can not
take them to the pet store.

Here is my problem, and I no that this sounds dumb, but on the older
gerbils it is easy to tell the sex now, but on the younger ones,
they all look the same to me, they were born the first week of
August, when does it become easier to sex them. Plus being over 40 I
think I need Bifocals hehehehehe.

Anyways thanks for reading.
