I sent them a private email, asking why they signed up for the
forum if they hated gerbils...and forwarded the link so they could
unsubscribe themselves.

Shrug. I do know that before I rescued that first batch in June, I
thought of gerbils as ugly little squirrel like things and the furry
tail totally disgusted me.

Now they are well loved and cared for, with more rescuees and
smuggled ones as well living here...

[p.s. a few more weeks until I ship the ones still here to their
new home so I'm enjoying them now while I can...until I get the
new gerbil/hamster shed built...]

However, I have a feeling that this person may have accidentally
signed on here and wants out...and does as a lot of others that
want off do...not follow the directions properly to get off....

Again, for those that want off the forum, the link is:
 http://www.igf.org.uk/gml/gmlfaq.htm

Go there and follow the instructions.

P.S. Bummed, my 'alien' hamster turned out to be a female
dwarf campbell satin coat mottled argente. Which is comparable
to loading up a lot of recessive genes on a gerbil. She took
forever to fur out though...and is less than half the size she
should be for her age. Her sister that doesn't have the mottled
[close to the Sp gene in gerbils] or the satin, is twice the size.

Lady the DTW and Bud the DEH, their four surviving pups are
doing well (lost one last night, no cause really apparent, and I
dug the tank bedding and no trace...also no chance he got out)
and Lady's second pregnancy is starting to show. I expect
next litter within the week. The impending litter should be old
enough to ship later in October....(airshipping)...on schedule...

Website is totally ripped up right now, I'm working on the links
and weaving; the Gerbil Rideshare will finally be coming forward.
I have no other sources of shipping other than Delta Dash (which
is a minimum of $153, and goes up from there) which is Delta
Airlines 'Warm Blooded Animal Air Ship' as live cargo. This is
for animals not travelling with a human in the passenger compartment
at the same time; and for things that are not cold blooded (i.e.,
fish, reptiles, snakes, etc).

Page layout will be from my main webpage, a logo to click that
will drop you to first page of the rideshare cluster....

A page for breeders and location...[if you own gerbils and want
to place their offspring, you can get a simple courtesy listing,
of city, state, email address-this stays up] Some of this information
I am getting off of a few months of traffic on the forum, if you've
indicated you've had animals looking for homes...

A page for 'available for adoption' this comes from postings I
have seen, I hope that after things launch to update this by the
week. It will have animals listed by color/sex/age, and whether
they're paired or grouped, and how much, when they're available,
etc. And city, state, email address.

A page for 'looking for' which also will come from postings I have
seen. Animals people are looking for, listed by description, and
where the looking person is at (city, state, email address)

A page of 'rides available'. Again, this will be initially seeded with
what I've seen on the forum postings. Who is going from X to Y,
and if they're willing to stop along the way; and when they will be
travelling. Cities covered, approximate itiniary (by day) and an
email to contact that person.

A page of alternatives. This is for things like air-shipping. For
shows, where and when.

A page of 'legalities'. Which covers where one may and may not
transport gerbils. [Like none into or out of California. The particulars
of taking gerbils into or out of Canada. How to fly with gerbils, etc.
Veternarian certificates....]

A page of 'suggestions'. This is how to go about using the service,
arranging things, and tentative prices for hauling animals (I'm thinking
a few dollars an animal).

I would like suggestions as to what to do if:

1.) someone contracts to take animals with them and doesn't show
or leave on time or at all.
2.) someone is supposed to deliver animals and doesn't show up
at agreed on time and/or place.
3.) receiver is supposed to show or be there or otherwise doesn't
take the animals.
4.) accident or other mishap so that the animals in transit don't make
it to the destination.

I also believe that small plastic 'kritter keeper' boxes are a good
way to transport animals. They are fairly escape proof and all...
any other suggestions on readily available shipping containers...
and what precautions and packaging should be done...
[I am suggesting that two inches of bedding and some cut
chunks of apple and/or carrots plus some grain/feed mixture
be put in the carrier....if the trip is longer than [suggestions]
then the transporter should feed the animals (feed provided
by sender) and water them after how long, etc.]
