when i was 9 i got my first gerbil along with a gerbil book. the book
recommended using about 8 inches deep of peat moss in a tank for a
gerbilarum.... i have been keeping gerbils for 10 years and never heard of
anyone keeping their gerbils in this setup, but recently i bought a gerbil
who is allergic to every knd of bedding from aspen to that new "natural"
bedding, so i finally decided to try that.... he was losing all his fun, his
eyes were running and he wasn't eating.... well it's been a month and he has
all his fur back and he has the SHINIEST coat i have ever seen!! he and his
mate have a 3 week old healthy litter of six and they are all THRIVING in
their network of tunnels!! i have put a new pair in a similar setup and they
have become more active and they change their tunnel scheme every few days
while the pair with the litter keep a few tunnels and a big underground
nest.... the only problem i have is the tanks are 10 galoons and i've had to
get creative with the water bottles and when they bury their food i think
it's harder ofr them to dig it up so i'm experimenting wth ways to rig the
food bowls to the walls near the top
if anyone has any comments please email me back i'd love some feedback!!
