Sam has bitten me hard enough to draw blood three separate times. The
first time was soon after we got the boys. I was trying to pet Sam and he
didn't want to be bothered. Due to inexperience I didn't understand his
body language that should have told me he want to be left alone. Finally,
he reinforced it with is teeth in my finger. It was pretty deep and bled a
lot.
The other two times were this last weekend. The first time I was letting
Bilbo and Frodo sniff my hand when Sam went underneath it, turned and
chomped my little finger. I guess he likes the smell/taste of my hand
soap. 8-} The next day, Sam was on my husband's shoulders when he started
to chew on Mike's collar. I tried to move the collar away and Sam bit my
finger instead. Neither of these bled very much.
In all cases Sam has held on and I had to blow in his face to get him to
let go. Sam has always been kind of a nipper but we have learned to
recognize the usual signs that he is getting ready to really chomp. At
least we usually do. 8-/ I don't blame Sam for any of the bites but we are
going to try to discourage even the harmless nips so we are not reluctant
to put our hands next to him.
All three of the boys like my wedding ring and our watches, especially my
leather watch band. I don't worry too much about the ring but I try to
keep them off the watch.
Sorry about the long message.
